2009 OAH/ALBC ABRAHAM LINCOLN HIGHER EDUCATION AWARDS

Attention Graduate Students

In recognition of and to promote significant research and scholarship on Abraham Lincoln and his era in United States history, the Organization of American Historians and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission have created two awards to be given to graduate students recognizing work-in-progress on “Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America, 1854-1865.” Both students will receive a certificate from the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and OAH recognizing their work and achievement, in addition to an honorarium.

OAH/ALBC Doctoral Fellowship: Applicants are required to have an ABD status, and provide graduate transcript(s), a dissertation prospectus, and a letter from their major professor that speaks to current and future potential of the candidate’s continued contribution to historical scholarship on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. The Fellow will receive an honorarium of $500.

OAH/ALBC Master of Arts Fellowship: Applicants are required to submit undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a Master of Arts thesis proposal, and a letter from their thesis director that speaks to current and future potential of the candidate’s continued contribution to historical scholarship on the life and times of Abraham Lincoln. The Fellow will receive an honorarium of $250.

These OAH/ALBC Higher Education Awards will be announced at the 2009 OAH Annual Meeting in Seattle. The deadline for submission of nominations and materials is December 1, 2008. (Work completed by Spring 2009 will not be eligible.)
