The St. Louis Meeting

Created 7 March 2000, 10:40 EST

8) Why are we meeting at Saint Louis University (SLU)? I understand some of the meeting rooms have crucifixes on the wall.

We are meeting at a St. Louis institution which has generously opened its campus to our members on very short notice. We should not expect the university to erase its religious identity simply because it is hosting a secular organization like the OAH. In addition, Saint Louis University was the only possible site in St. Louis that could house all of our activities, at a reasonable cost, during the already scheduled time of our meeting. Postponing or cancelling the meeting would only have incurred greater cost to the OAH.
