Dear Colleagues:

We are looking forward to a great Annual Meeting in St. Louis. As you may know, all of the sessions and events planned for the Adam's Mark Hotel will be at Saint Louis University (SLU). OAH staff, committees, and local members are making final arrangements to ensure attendees have an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating weekend.

ALL ROOM LOCATIONS for sessions and events will be posted on the OAH website <http://www.oah.org/> early next week.

PRE-REGISTRATION is open until 16 March--we have extended the deadline by a week. You may preregister online at <http://www.oah.org/meetings/2000/>.

REGISTRATION is conveniently located in the Simon Rec. Center
on the Saint Louis University campus near Grand Blvd. and Laclede Ave. Maps of the campus, and the city, may be found at <http://www.oah.org/meetings/2000/>.

BOOK EXHIBITS are also in Simon Rec. Center. Three new exhibitors have signed up for the meeting in the past two weeks. A map of the exhibit hall will appear in the Pocket Program and on the OAH website. There will be lunch, snacks, and beverages for purchase in the exhibit and registration area, inside the Simon Rec Center. Tables and seating also will be available.

GETTING TO this beautiful campus is easy. It's about a mile west of the downtown. The MetroLink light rail system's Grand Blvd. stop is within walking distance. SLU also runs shuttles between the MetroLink stop and campus. To further ensure ease of travel in city, we have arranged for shuttles between downtown hotels and venues and the campus, as well as to offsite events and sessions. For those of you staying at downtown, we will have information desks and guides stationed in hotel lobbies.

PARKING is available on campus ($4 all day) at the Olive Parking Garage, located at SLU's northeast corner, at Olive and Compton.

THURSDAY, MARCH 30 -- OPENING DAY SPECIAL EVENTS

On Thursday evening, prior to the 8pm plenary session on Miles Davis, there are two new events:

  • "White Supremacy and Anti-Semitism: Toward an Historical Comparison" is the title of OAH Past President George Fredrickson's talk at Washington University, 6:30 pm, in Room 204 of the Anheuser-Busch Law School Bldg. Washington Univ. will supply the shuttle service.

FRIDAY, MARCH 31-- SPECIAL EVENTS

  • "Rally Against Racism" begins at 11:30am in Smith Park in front of the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis (2 blocks west of the Arch). This event has been planned by local organizers.
  • At 7pm a "March Against Racism" will begin at Smith Square in front of the Old Courthouse and proceed 11 blocks northwest to Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral.
  • Presidential Address ("Immigrants, Race, and Political Reform," by David Montgomery) and Presentation of Awards will be at 8pm in Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral, on the corner of Locust and 13th streets in the downtown area.
