OAH and Palgrave Macmillan are proud to announce the third annual Best Essays in American History volume, which showcases the best American history articles published between the summers of 2006 and 2007. This second volume provides a quick and comprehensive overview of the top work and the current intellectual trends in the field of American history. With contributions from a diverse group of historians, this collection appeals both to scholars and to lovers of history alike.

Edited by David Roediger, Kendrick C. Babcock Professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of numerous books, including Our Own Time: A History of American Labor and the Working Day (with Philip S. Foner), The Wages of Whiteness: Race and the Making of the American Working Class, and Towards the Abolition of Whiteness.

The 2008 volume includes ten of the best essays in American history published in the last year. Written by such prominent historians as Anna Pelger-Gordon, Monica Richmond Gisolfi, Gloria L. Main, David M. Wrobel, Michael McDonnell, Beth English, Jeffrey S. Adler, Carma R. Gorman, Jason Phillips, and Paul C. Rosier Juliana Barr, Monica Najar, Stephen Aron, Gail Bederman, Moon Ho-Jung, Drew Gilpin Faust, Molly M. Wood, Janet R. Bednarek, Michelle Brattain, and Jacquelyn Dowd Hall, the book's essays cover all aspects of American history, from the early days of the republic to the twentieth century.
